2 Kiwi Mojito Mocktail in lowball glasses with kiwi and mint on counter
Mocktails for All! – Fizzy Fun Drinks for Anyone, Anytime

Whether are looking to drink less yourself, or you want to serve something fun for your under-agers, mocktails are a fun and festive way to be part of the party. Across the country, non-alcoholic drinks are popping up on menus, store shelves, and backyard barbecues. It’s no secret that imbibing less is beneficial to everyone’s health, and it seems the trend to cut back is well underway.

During each of my pregnancies it seemed ginger ale or club soda and cranberry were pretty much the only things I could get out at a restaurant . Times and attitudes have changed. Fruit-forward, handcrafted beverages are everywhere, and they can be in your hand at your own home, too.

Tasty need not be complex. The exclusive bar downtown may have a resident mixologist to whip up syrups and shrubs, but at home you can make darn good drinks without much effort. From a tart strawberry paloma to a fizzy pineapple orange mimosa, these four are nothing short of exciting…

Strawberry Paloma Mocktail

If you are not familiar with the cocktail known as a Paloma, you can think of it like a version of a margarita made with grapefruit juice or soda. It’s tart and refreshing. This non-alcoholic version adds strawberries for sweetness.

Passion Fruit Daiquiri Mocktail

Blended daiquiris may be the party cocktail poolside, but a traditional daiquiri is a simple concoction of rum, lime juice and sugar. Here, we’ve decided to skip the blender for a non-alcoholic take on the more sophisticated drink, but had fun with mixing up the ingredients so you don’t miss the rum. Passion fruit juice brings a sweet and tropical vibe, and the coconut water anchors the drink with a nod to its roots in the Caribbean. If you can’t find passion fruit juice, try guava, watermelon or pineapple.

Kiwi Mojito Mocktail

Mojitos are made of mint, lime, sugar and rum. Swapping out the rum for kiwi brings in sweetness and a fresh flavor. Kiwi is a natural addition to a traditional mojito due to its high acidity which like the lime juice is tempered by the sugar, but it also brings a tropical vibe and vibrant green color. Make sure to use fresh lime juice for the best results. This is a tart drink. If you prefer more sweetness, adjust the sugar to your tastes.

Orange Pineapple Mimosa Mocktail

This virgin mimosa is basically a fruit juice spritzer, but when served in a champagne flute and garnished with fresh raspberries, it makes any gathering feel festive. I suggest using fresh orange juice, and really love the way satsuma’s taste in this. In a pinch a good quality pre-squeezed juice will work well too, both for the OJ and the pineapple.
