Cinnamon Spiced Chocolate Granola in a mason jar with a locking lid that uses a metal clasp
Cinnamon Spiced Chocolate Granola

The most important part of making granola is stirring often, and rotating the pan. The edges will burn and it will not cook evenly if you don’t pay attention. Past that, it requires very little effort. You’ll be rewarded with an incredible aroma wafting through the house, and a batch of homemade granola you can bag up and share with friends over the holidays. This one is spiced with cinnamon, ginger and cloves and made with olive oil for sophisticated flavor and healthfulness.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole oats
  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 cup raw shelled sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • ¼ cup hemp seeds
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¾ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 300 F. Line a large baking sheet or two medium baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix the oats, almonds, sunflower seeds, coconut, and hemp seeds. Stir in the cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cocoa powder and salt. Pour in the olive oil and maple syrup, stirring well to make sure everything is moistened.
  • Transfer the mixture to the baking sheet or sheets, and place in your preheated oven. Bake, stirring every 15 minutes, for 1 hour. Each time you stir, turn the pan from front to back to ensure even baking.
  • Allow the granola to cool completely, then stir in the chocolate chips. Store at room temperature in a well sealed container.
