John Day’s Spiced Pecans

These candied pecans were a fixture at my aunt’s houes on Christmas day. She passed the recipe down to me from dear family friends, going back two generations. Plan on making big batches, as they go quickly, and make excellent hostess gifts around the holidays.

John Day’s Spiced Pecans

Ingredients
 

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 4 cups pecans
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 250 F.
  • Beat the egg white and water together until foamy. Add the pecans, cinnamon, sugar and salt. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Let the nuts cool on a rack, then store at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
